Take The High Road

As had been anticipated and hoped for, at Cowdenbeth on Saturday 3 September, “Take The High Road” featured a massive influx of North East based F2s.

The meeting carried sponsorship from Russell Taylor's RWT Fabrications, A1 Graphics, Tyneside Generators, RS Motorsport and Cleveland Brewery.

The aim of the meeting was to tie in with the 30 Years Celebrations of GMP Scotland.  In a throwback to the old days of North East drivers heading to Newtongrange, the plan was for as many drivers as possible to meet up for breakfast on Saturday morning, and then journey north to Scotland, in a convoy-style trip.

A commemorative certificate had been commissioned from cartoonist Des Penny, who is regularly referred to in the pages of unloaded 7.3 magazine, as, "Our Man In The North East".  All 28 drivers who raced at the meeting received a framed certificate as a cherished memento of this historic fixture.  This was very well received by all drivers.

All Scottish drivers, and a selection of racers from the north west and north east of England, had been circulated with a detailed invitation to this special occasion, and the response was very good indeed, which led to the best night of F2 action at the Racewall for some time.

Such was the "feel good" factor amongst the drivers who had journeyed north of the border and received such a fine welcome from the Scottish racegoers, that there was talk of them trying to plan another similar 'invasion' before the end of the season.
