It turned out to be a very wet meeting at the Cowdenbeath Racewall at the start to the second half of the stock car season but despite that it turned out to be an entertaining affair. Mind you there was the odd flash of lightning to throw more light on the proceedings!
A cheque to the value of £1070 was handed over to the representative from CHAS at Rachel House, this being the proceeds from the car show at the end of June.
Gemma Russell won the ministox Red 5 Scottish Saltire Championship leading from almost the start to the finish whilst it was Liam Rennie who came out on top in the Dash for the tyres. In the stock rods the final was for the Jane Burt memorial trophy and whilst David Philp won the race he had to endure torrential rain to do so!
In fact it was that wet that a few drivers were covered in water after being forced wide and hitting the standing water!

RUSSELL TAKES SALOON WIN
The saloons were back in action after their two day UK Challenge meeting last weekend at Skegness with the wet conditions making things difficult.
Heat one ended with Stuart Shevill Jnr going through to win from Willie Mitchell and Adam Low. In heat two Gordon Alexander went on to win leading home Barry Russell and Mitchell.
In the final Low led but lost the lead to Shevill Jnr. However there was a race stoppage and whilst Shevill Jnr made a good restart he had Russell in close order. Russell slipped through into the lead during the closing stages to win from Shevill Jnr and Stuart Drobinski.

PHILP WINS JANE BURT MEMORIAL RACE
The stock rod format was an all in one with Kevin Rist bringing out the ex-Robert McDonald car after the latter had emigrated to Australia.
The opening heat saw Stewart Armit go through to record a narrow win over Michael Bethune and Jonathan Lattka. David Philp then went through to win heat two and he led Dougie McLean and Armit to the chequer.
There was plenty of action in the final with Jordan Wright going straight into the lead but soon had McLean and Peter Henderson closing him down. Wright held the lead until eight when he was overtaken by Henderson but when Dean Gordon and Philp touched on the pit bend it was the Gordon car which spun to the wall. On the restart Henderson came under pressure from Bethune and soon had Philp joining in the fight for the lead. Kerr Paterson was beginning to make up ground and soon it was a four car dice for the lead. Philp got ahead of Henderson with five laps remaining with Paterson moving into third. However as Paterson tried to overtake Henderson the cars touched although both were able to continue but out of touch with the top two. With one to go Henderson made contact with Paterson sending him spinning into the wall with the Jane Burt memorial trophy going to Philp from Bethune and Craig Tosh.

LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE FOR WILSON
The Lightning rods proved to be reasonably quick in the wet with Derek Nimmo winning heat one from Lindsay Wilson and David Glencross. Wilson then won heat two from Chris Dearns with only two cars finishing the race. Wilson then won the final leading home Dearns and Glencross.

RUSSELL WINS RED5 SCOTTISH SALTIRE FINAL
The ministox drivers gave a good account of themselves in the wet conditions.
The first heat was the Dash for the Tyres and saw the cars line up in their grades but with only a car’s length between the grades the race being sponsored by the proceeds from the Disco.
Liam Rennie went through to win from Dale Buchan and Camie McGowan but there were a couple of stoppages during the race.
McGowan then went through to win the heat and he was followed home by Rennie and Zak Gilmour.
The draw for the Saltire final saw Lindsay Norrie make the better of the starts but by the end of the lap Gemma Russell had driven inside of her to take the lead. Rennie was working his way through the field but couldn’t get close to Russell who went through to win from Rennie and McGowan.
Rennie won the last heat of the night leading home Kieran Howie and Gilmour.
