The rain began to fall just as the formula II drivers set off for their Grand National Championship at the Cowdenbeath Racewall on Saturday night but that didn’t deter the drivers from serving up a cracking race. Gordon Moodie led the race from start to finish to pick up his fourth Grand National championship win. It was a similar story in the Saloon Stock Car Scottish Championship where there was plenty of contact as Stuart Shevill Jnr went through to win. Saline Motors sponsored both races.

MOODIE TAKES GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Chris Bradbury, the defending GN champion was one of the drivers at the track along with Tom Adcroft, Sam Wagner, Charlie Whitfield and John Broatch whilst the past Scottish winners of the title Gordon Moodie and Chris Burgoyne were well placed on the grid.
After a couple of warm up laps Moodie made the better of the starts to lead the field away from Bradbury and whilst Adcroft clipped the wall Broatch was the first to retire when he spun on the pit bend. Moodie began to ease away whilst Chris Burgoyne began to close in on those ahead with Robbie Dawson also making up ground. Bradbury was forced wide as Burgoyne took over second. Garry Sime slowed to retire but up front Moodie was well clear and he went through to win from Burgoyne and Dawson with Bradbury in fourth.
In the heats Dawson won from Gregor Turner and Murray Jones whilst in heat two Burgoyne won from Paul Reid and George MacMillan Jnr.
Burgoyne won the final from Moodie and Dennis Middler. The Grand National held in pouring rain went to Moodie who won from MacMillan Jnr and Dawson with Burgoyne in fifth place.

SLICK SHEVILL JNR TAKES SCOTTISH
The opening Saloon Stock Car race of the night was the Scottish Championship but outgoing champion Chris Lattka wasn’t defending his title after having switched back to the stock rods.
The public draw paired Ian McLaughlin and Stuart Drobinski on the front row whilst last onto the track was Stuart Shevill Jnr who drew position thirteen!
McLaughlin went straight into the lead but Drobinski was sent wide allowing Stevie Triggs through into second spot whilst Barry Russell was quickly through into third. Alan Stirling spun from the rear of the field but at the opposite end McLaughlin was pulling away from the field. Then there was chaos as Stirling was spun by Mike McCombie on the main straight whilst Derek Duff was sent spinning going into the pit bend bringing out the yellow flags.
The order at the front was McLaughlin, Russell and Shevill jnr and on the restart they were quickly away but there was another stoppage with Kyle Hegg out.
Again McLaughlin led the pack away and at the half distance was ahead of Russell, Shevill jnr and Stevie Honeyman now in contention. Shevill jnr moved ahead of Russell and then started to reel in Mc Laughlin. Going into the pit bend Shevill Jnr sent McLaughlin bouncing off the wall as he took the lead whilst Honeyman and Russell had a bit of contact. Shevill Jnr reeled off the remaining laps to become the 2011 Scottish Champion from McLaughlin and Honeyman.
Luke Grief then won the first heat from Gordon Alexander and Scotty Devine whilst heat two saw Willie Mitchell run away with the race crossing the line clear of Alexander and Grief.

MARTIN TAKES TURNER TROPHY
There was a healthy field of stock rods but once the ,meeting started they had to race on a wet and greasy track surface.
Heat one saw Kerr Paterson go through to win from Siobhan Martin and Chris Lattka. In heat two it was Michael Bethune who scored an easy win over Paterson and C. Lattka.
Martin went through to win the final, picking up the Turner trophy and was followed home by C. Lattka and Paterson.

MINIS IN THE WET
The Ministox drivers were again in good form on the wet and greasy surface and there was plenty of incidents in their races.
Heat one saw Liam Rennie go through to win from Camie McGowan and Dale Buchan. In heat two Zak Gilmour was the winner and he finished ahead of Arran McGowan and Andy Millar.
