For once there was no rain during the stock car meeting at the Cowdenbeath Racewall on Saturday night and as a result the fans were treated to some close, fast and exciting dicing.
However Billy Bonnar crashed his hot rod heavily during one of his races whilst in traffic and then whilst out with his lightening rod almost rolled his car after getting two wheels onto the wall on the main straight. Paul Broatch was teeboned by a couple of cars during the formula II Grand National and had to retire whilst in the saloons Adam Low was sent crashing heavily into the wall with his saloon during the opening heat, rebuilt it in the pits and was back out for the final! Lindsay Wilson won the lightning rod Scottish Championship on the last lap capitalising when Alex Imrie went wide which allowed him to nip through on the inside to win.

MOODIE GRABS FINAL GLORY!

Amongst the visiting formula II drivers were Paul Broatch and Sam Wagner whilst Derek Ashcroft was down from Inverness.
The first heat saw John Fortune, who was using Rob Speak’s chassis, go through to win the opening heat from Gordon Moodie and Robbie Dawson. In heat two Fortune repeated his win this time crossing the line ahead of Chris Burgoyne and Moodie.
Raymond Dick went straight into the lead when the final started whilst on the main straight Fortune and Burgoyne lost time as they clashed. Gregor Turner moved into second place from Stephen Forster whilst Moodie got to the front of the red graders as he set off after the drivers ahead. Turner took the lead just before half distance but soon afterwards Moodie moved into second and then three laps later took the lead. Once there he pulled away before going through to win from Burgoyne and George MacMillan Jnr.
Burgoyne went on to win the Grand National from MacMillan Jnr and Dawson.

A DOUBLE FOR SHEVILL JNR

The Saloon drivers were in good form although Johnny Wood ran into trouble as he moved onto the grid and never managed a lap. Amongst those in action were the new Scottish Champion Stuart Shevill Jnr.
Heat one saw Gordon Alexander go through to win from Ian McLaughlin and Stuart Shevill Jnr. Heat two ended with Shevill Jnr going on to win and he crossed the line clear of Alexander and Stuart Drobinski.
Mike McCombie led the final for quite a few laps but Shevill jnr was making good progress through the field, taking the lead during the closing stages to win from Alexander and Drobinski.

DONALDSON TAKES FINAL WIN

The hot rod drivers were contesting another of their World Championship qualifying rounds. Jim Cowie was on the grid having his first qualifying round at the Racewall.
Billy Bonnar won the opening heat from Graeme Callender and Craig McLaren. In heat two Ian Donaldson took the honours from Callender and McLaren. Whilst McLaren led the cars away when the Fife Engine Services final started, Donaldson soon caught and passed McLaren to take the lead. During the closing stages Callender found his way around McLaren to claim second but by then Donaldson was well clear and picked up a second win and collecting the Turner trophy as well.

WILSON PINCHES IT!

The draw for the lightning rod Scottish paired Alan Conroy and Alex Imrie on the front row with Imrie going straight into the lead when the race started. Lindsay Wilson worked his way through into second place as Chris Dearn spun out. Shortly afterwards Stevie Burt spun but managed to stop before he hit Dearn’s car. As the race progressed Wilson closed right up onto the back of Imrie’s car and when lapping back markers, Imrie went wide allowing Wilson through and he went on to win from Imrie and Bonnar.
Imrie won heat one from David Glencross and Wilson. In heat two Imrie again claimed the honours this time from John Sibbald and Barry Nelson.
