Turners Talk - 4th October 2008
WALKER LOSES THE BLUES!
Ryan Walker went through to win his first final of the season using the RCE chassis of Gary Coffey. Walker got into the lead early on after the final had started although initially challenged by Lee McGill. After a couple of race suspensions, he had McGill still challenging but then John Fortune moved through into second but there was nothing he could do about Walker’s lead as the latter went through to win and then up to the DIY for red paint!
WHITE/YELLOWS FINALS
This Saturday we see the finals of the track’s white/yellow challenge series and let’s hope they are as good as last year’s. The formula IIs have a wing from Stevie Wing to race for and that will add a bit of spice to the race. Last year it was Derek Gilchrist who ended up as the winner whilst Stuart Mitchell was the first white grader home. There could be at least 12 to 15 cars eligible for this race so let’s hope it’s a good one! The saloons went to Robin Copland last year and whilst he hasn’t raced too often this year he would like nothing better than to retain the title. However we have the likes of Stevie Triggs, Barry Russell, and Ian McLaughlin going for the win so look out – it will be good!
MELROSE RUNS AWAY
The prostox final proved to be quite a problematic race with drivers getting into troubles and having to retire. At one time Tam Melrose was last on the grid and then after a few “coming togethers” was leading! There were quite a few drivers circulating just trying to get to the finish and a point or so!
OUCH!
Stuart Elder was in a big shunt during the stock rod final, which saw his car squeezed into the wall on the main straight and as a result spun, ending up facing the wall minus a wheel. The shunt saw Stewart Armit hit the back of Tony Lattka’s car and then crash heavily into the infield tyres. Paul Hughes ended up with a wrecked car in one of the heats whilst Scott Chisholm was the sandwich in a three car shunt.
FIRST RUN, FIRST WIN!
It does happen, but not too often, and Martin Heriot proved it on Saturday night. Heriot appeared with his prostox, started from the front of the grid and then led the race for most of the time to win. Over the last couple of laps he was under pressure but that didn’t deter him as he picked up his win. Mind you he was shunted into the wall later and wrecked his car.
