Turners Talk - 6th September 2008
BROWN’S GOLD!
Shane Brown ended up winning the saloon World Final on Saturday night under the watchful eyes of Sky TV. It was an exciting World Final with the biggest surprise being that it went six laps before a yellow was needed! But when it did come out it was after Stuart Shevill Jnr had been Websterised on the pit bend and when back markers tangled with him on the back straight it put paid to David Aldous’ chances of winning. After that it was the Luke Grief/Brown show with the latter finally getting through into the lead although Grief did grab it back – but only for one lap. Once Brown got back into the lead that was that.
PURDIE TAKES GORDON BARCLAY MEMORIAL TROPHY
The main race on Sunday was the Gordon Barclay Memorial Trophy and what a race it turned out to be with plenty of shunts and spins with David Aldous coming a cropper and rolling on the pit bend. However the car landed back on all four wheels and David rejoined the field at the back of the grid. Kenny Purdie went through to win from Gordon Alexander and Stevie Honeyman.
TURNER ROLLS FAMILIAR PATTERN!
Gregor Turner was back out after missing almost a month’s racing and whilst ahead in his formula II heat ended up rolling the car. Mind you the last time Gregor won a race he rolled it the next time out! I see a pattern developing unfortunately!
SALOON ROLLERS!
The saloon action came thick and fast over the weekend with quite a few drivers ending up rolling their cars. Stevie Triggs, Ian Govier and Shaun Webster came to grief on Saturday whilst on Sunday Michael Bethune, Simon Royal and David Aldous rolled their cars. Coupled to that there were plenty of drivers who rode the pit bend wall, Bethune did it twice, whilst there were multiple crashes, spins and shunts. Oh and by the way I don’t think the Shevills and the Websters will be exchanging Christmas cards!
PROSTOX SCOTTISH
This Saturday the prostox drivers will be contesting their Scottish Championship where we can expect to see a lot of action, spins and shunts. Amongst the favourites are Ian Taylor, Tam Linden, Scott Gilmour and John Mason but in a race such as this then almost anything could happen and probably will!
