Turner's Talk 21st May 2011
ROCKIN’ AND ROLLIN’
John Haldane had an interesting meeting at the Racewall being sent crashing into the wall on the back straight and promptly ended up rolling his car. Later Tam Gordon clobbered the top bend wall and it looked as if he too was going to roll. Somehow the car came down onto two wheels and dropped back onto to all four!
John McAlonie was back after a lengthy absence in what turned out to be a borrowed car and promptly crashed heavily into the pit bend wall. He has a lot of major repairs to do to the car to get it back ship shape prior to its rightful owner returning from his break!
KIRKALDY’S NAE BLUE ANY MORE!
Alan Kirkaldy hasn’t had too good a start to the season on his formula II and as a result dropped from red to blue. At Knockhill he suffered engine problems but on his first run as a blue grader promptly ran away with the final and as a result will be racing from red on his next outing.
PHILP’S EURO WARM UP
With the stock rod Euro championship coming to the Racewall on the 28th May the stock rod drivers were taking their last opportunity to get their cars set up for the big race.
In the first two heats quite a few drivers were caught out with minor misdemeanours and as a result the finishing orders were dramatically changed.
However during the final there was to be no stopping David Philp Jnr who went on to an excellent win and must now be looking forward to the championship race.
MEIKLE’S NEW MOBLIE
Tam Meikle made his debut on Saturday night with a brand new Mitchell chassis and in a new blue livery. The car ran well throughout the
meeting with Meikle finishing in seventh place during the Grand National.
KNOCKHILL MEETING NUMBER 2
The second of the Knockhill meeting takes place on May 25th and brings together the formula IIs, saloons, hot rods and lightning rods.
The hot rods will be contesting another of their World Championship qualifying rounds – one of the last before the World Final at Ipswich
in July.
