Turner's Talk 29th October 2011

AN ELITE FORTUNE!

John Fortune brought the Rob Speak Elite chassis to the Racewall and promptly ran away with both heats and had he not tangled with Chris Burgoyne at the start to the final could well have made it three in a row!
Expect to see Fortune in an Elite next year – well occasionally!

WILSON AT THE CLOSE!

The lightning rod Scottish Championship brought out 9 cars to the track with Derek Nimmo amongst those missing!
Alex Imrie went into the lead almost right away and was soon being chased by Lindsay Wilson. Chris Dearns crossed the track and hit an infield post with Stevie Burt almost doing likewise soon afterwards. Billy Bonnar clambered up the main straight wall but survived. Towards the end of the race Wilson had caught Imrie and with Imrie on the inside he drifted wide going into the top bend on the last lap whilst lapping a back marker and that was all the invite that Wilson needed and he went charging through to win.

DONALDSON TAKES TWO!

After having suffered a puncture in the first heart Ian Donaldson bounced back to win heat two and then the final with his hot rod and in doing so picked up a lot of World Championship qualifying points. Donaldson also ended up winning the Turner trophy as a result of his final success.

SUPERBOWL WEEKEND

It’s the Superbowl weekend and that means saloon action between the Scottish, English and Northern Ireland drivers and anybody else who wants to join in!
The Superbowl usually brings a host of stars from south of the border and we can expect to see plenty of hard contact throughout the races with the final the highlight of the night!
The new World Champion Eddie Darby will be having his first run in Scotland using the number 1 on his car and remember he won the World after having had to get through a last chance qualifying round to do so!
Darby has a good record in Scotland and expect to see him looking to defend his Superbowl win of last year and of 2001!
However not only is Darby a threat to a home win but so too is David Aldous and Shane Brown both having won big races in Scotland and have been a thorn in the side of the home drivers over the years.
Don’t expect to see the Scottish drivers playing second fiddle with the new Scottish Champion Stuart Shevill Jnr hoping to add another title to his CV and he certainly will be keen to mix it with the visiting drivers.
Gordon Alexander, Ian McLaughlin, Stuart Drobinski and Barry Russell will be others who will be taking the fight to the visitors whilst hopefully Stevie Honeyman will be back to add another bit of spice to the proceedings.
That is just Saturday’s offering – bear in mind we have the Gordon Barclay memorial trophy and the Charlene Kingston Memorial trophy to be contested on the Sunday afternoon, both to be defended by Shane Brown!

JUST CHAMPION!

The formula II drivers will be looking to contest the Champion of Champions trophy on Saturday night with Gordon Moodie looking to retain his title.
However missing will be Dennis Middler, John Fortune and perhaps Garry Sime, who has a wrist injury but it is expected that there will be quite a race between Moodie, Chris Burgoyne, Robbie Dawson and George MacMillan Jnr for the title.
