Turners Talk 14th May 2011

BRITISH TO GOUDY

Darren Goudy became the saloon British Champion at the Racewall on Sunday afternoon and apart from some early action had a fairly easy time of it.
Goudy did well in the Saturday night practice and as a result started the championship race from the third row and apart from surviving the opening lap shunt made short work of getting through into the lead. Once there he pulled away for what turned out to be a comfortable win.

RAYMOND GUNN TO SHEVILL JNR

He may have had to settle for a third place in the British Championship but Stuart Shevill Jnr was back on the track for the Raymond Gunn tribute race with suspension repaired.
Starting from the back he worked his way through the field and once he forced his way into the lead pulled away from the opposition to record what was a comfortable win over Darren Goudy!

GOVIER MAKES A SPLASH

Ian Govier is a plumber to trade and he certainly made a splash when he won the last chance qualifying race on Sunday, thanks to the leading duo taking themselves out. The smile on his face once he got out of the car was something else and he showed his delight by splashing about in the puddle beside his car. Mind you the Racewall dolls might not have agreed with him ‘cos he soaked them when he celebrated his success more than once – he had on a wet suit they didn’t!

BONNAR TAKES FINAL

Billy Bonnar may not have made it a clean sweep in the World Championship qualifying round at the Racewall but he maintained his
successful run with a final win.
In the heats Bonnar just couldn’t find a way around Ian Donaldson but during the final he just managed to find a gap to slip through to claim victory.

MOODIE’S THIRD HAT TRICK

On Saturday night Gordon Moodie continued his dominance in the formula IIs by winning both heats as well as the final to record his third hat trick of hat tricks!
Moodie is getting very close to the top of the National Points chart – only Chris Bradbury is ahead of him and it could well turn out to be a race between the pair of them this year.

MINISTOX ON FORM

There was a good turn out of ministoxers on show on Sunday and as usual they turned in an exciting performance. What about Kieran Howie hanging his mini on the infield fence? Mind you he headed that way rather than crash into a spun car so well done to him. Liam Rennie clattered the wall as he tried to scrub off some speed before he hit the back of Erin Clyne’s car and whilst she needed help out of her car she will be alright – just bruising!
Alec Cunningham won two races whilst Tristan Claydon won one on what was to be his last ministox race before he heads to the saloons!

STOCK ROD EURO COMING SOON

The stock rod European Championship is heading to the Racewall on the 28th May and hopefully there will be a full field of cars for the meeting. There will certainly be quite a few Scottish drivers who will fancy their chances of success but there is sure to be a good field of cars from England and Northern Ireland.
