Turners Talk 30th April 2011
ARMOUR ROLLS
Despite their best attempts only John Armour managed a rollover on Saturday and that came when he spied a car in front that was within contact range. When he did hit the car it bounced off the wall and came to a halt. However Armour also hit the wall but his car rolled coming to rest on all its roof!
Lee Smart was sent bouncing off the pit bend wall in his prostox and whilst being pretty close to rolling, the car came back down on all
four wheels.
Lindsay Norrie had a cracker in her mini being involved in a spin on the main straight, When her car came to rest it was promptly collected by another which sent her car clambering up the infield tyres and all but ended up on the centre green!
MOODIE IN FORM
Gordon Moodie continued his good form winning both the heats on Saturday night. Moodie then quickly got into his stride during the final, taking the lead just after the half distance before going on to win the Scribbles and Doodles sponsored final.
Although Alan Kirkaldy won the GN Moodie ended up in sixth place, amassing 40 points for his efforts.
BRENNAN HEADS NORTH
Whilst a good number of the formula II drivers headed south where they could nearly pick and choose where they wanted to race Mickey Brennan headed north to take in the Racewall on Saturday and Barford on Sunday.
Mickey had a good meeting coming home second in the final but willing to cause harm when someone tried to pinch his Easter egg!
HOGG WINS WHITE/YELLOW CHALLENGE 1
There weren’t too many formula IIs in action for the first of the white/yellow challenge races and they were somewhat depleted when Ewan Ewart clouted the wall on the top bend. However when John Hogg finally caught and passed Stephen Forster it was all over as he coasted to an easy win.
BRITISH HEADING OUR WAY
It is not long now until the saloon drivers head north for the British Championship with hopefully a big field of drivers heading our way.
Darren Barnett is the defending title holder and he will be hopeful of taking the title back home.
However there are a lot of Scottish drivers going well at present so look for the likes of Stuart Shevill Jnr, Chris Lattka, Ian McLaughlin,
Stuart Drobinski and Barry Russell all more than capable. There should be the usual travelling visitors so look out for Luke Grief, David
Aldous, Shane Brown and Eddie Darby looking to spoil the home drivers aspirations.
ACTION PACKED MINIS
Love them or not the ministox drivers are certainly entertaining and there is never a race goes by that there is some sort of contact.
On Saturday night that was certainly the case and as early as the opening laps of heat one there was contact with Dylan O’Donnell and
Jamie Connacher making heavy contact. There were pile ups in heat two and then the final – should have given them an Allcomers!
