Turners Talk 7th May 2011
MOODIE AND KELLY TAKE FINALS
There have been a couple of formula II finals recently at the Knockhill Trioval and at the Racewall, both won by comfortable margins.
At Knockhill it was Stuart Kelly who dominated going through to win the final by a comfortable margin to record his second final win in four days!
At the Racewall Moodie dominated the racing winning both the heats as well as the final, again winning by a big margin.
KEITH’S NEW CONTROL CAR
For those who didn’t get to Knockhill, Keith Ramsay was piloting a new track control car – a Rennie’s bus!
It was a bit slow on the parade lap but wasn’t too bad for taking the winner round although Graham Kelly had to stand at the side door and was looking for Keith to charge him for the lap!
LOWER GRADERS DOMINATE SALOONS
There was a cracking turn out of saloon drivers for the penultimate meeting prior to the British and the last track in Britain where you
can race on four Avon tyres. Now you can use the new Yokohama A drive tyre either all round or with two Avons but the tyres must be on the same axle. Tyres are much cheaper – thanks goodness!
However the first saloon race was won by yellow grader Scotty Devine and the second by Derek Duff. The final saw Ally Strachan hit the front early on and he went through to win from Stevie Triggs and Kyle Hegg with the first red grader in fifth place.
TOSH TAKES FINAL
Yellow grader Craig Tosh went on to win the stock rod final on Saturday night taking an early lead and then managing to make a break from the pack. Once clear there was no way he was going to be caught as he chalked up his first final win of the season.
SALOON BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP
This weekend it’s the one of the big championships of the season – the British Championship and hopefully we should have a reasonably good attendance of cars.
The defending champion is Darren Barnett and like all title holders will be keen to retain his title. However coming to challenge for the title is the World and European Champion David Aldous and the National Champion Shane Brown, both having won many a title race in Scotland.
However the National Points champion Stuart Shevill Jnr is a past British Champion as is Gordon Alexander, both going reasonably well
just now whilst the Scottish Champion Chris Lattka is another who you cannot rule out.
When you add the likes of Barry Hollett, Luke Grief, Carl Waterfield, Danny Hunt, Jamie and Lee Sampson plus a couple from Northern Ireland then it is a strong International mix.
On the home front Ian McLaughlin, Stuart Drobinski, Derek Duff, Barry Russell and yellow grader Ally Strachan are all going well so the
qualifying rounds are going to be very important for the final on Sunday!
Added to that the drivers also have the Raymond Gunn tribute race fterwards and that is usually quite an exciting affair.
